Frequently Asked Questions
Grouped Class That is Full
The Website tells me that a class is open, but when I try to register for it, I get a message that says the class is part of a group that is full. What does this mean?
A grouped class is one that meets with another, such as Fitness Walking 1 and Fitness Walking 2. Students in each class share the same instructor and facilities, but their course requirements vary. "This class is part of a group that is full" means that the combined enrollment of these classes has reached the enrollment maximum. If a class allows 30 seats and it states there are 15 out of 30 available, the other 15 seats are being occupied by students who have registered for the grouped class.
When you search for open sections, the web registration system will only reflect the enrollment in the class you query; it does not consider the enrollment in the grouped class. As a result, some classes are reflected as open when they are actually full. The only way to find if a grouped class is available is to attempt to register for it. If the class is open, you can register; otherwise, you will receive the described message.
How Do I Get my Refund?
How do I get a refund if I drop or withdraw from a class?
Prior to and through the end of the first week of the semester (or the fifth day of the summer session), you will receive a full refund for any class that you drop. After the first week of the term (or the fifth day of the summer term), you are entitled to a partial refund only if you withdraw from all of your classes. You must contact the Business Office to initiate the refund process if you withdraw from all of your classes after the first week.
Refunds are sent in the form of a check to you at the address the college has on file for you approximately two weeks after your drop/withdrawal has been processed. Be sure to check out the implications of Changing your Schedule if you received financial aid.
ID or PIN Problems
The Website says that my Student ID or PIN is invalid. Why?
Make sure that you are entering the correct eight-digit Student ID number. You will find this in your acceptance letter (received when you were admitted to Normandale), on your course readiness assessment results (simply take one zero off the front of the number), or on a previous billing statement, grade report, or class schedule. If you are a new student or you have never logged in, your PIN is defaulted to the last six digits of your Social Security number or your date of birth in YYMMDD format. If you have elected not provide your Social Security number or date of birth to the College, our system will randomly assign a PIN to you. You can obtain it from the Records Office with a dated signed request submitted by mail, by fax or in person with photo identification. Or, you can elect to submit your date of birth or Social Security number to us now by forwarding us a copy of your birth certificate or driver's license (for your date of birth) or your Social Security card (for your Social Security number). Be sure to request to request that we reset your PIN at the same time.
If you are a returning student and cannot remember your PIN, please contact the Records Office to have it reset for you.
I don't know my Student ID Number or PIN.
Privacy laws prevent us from giving you this information over the telephone, but we can give it to you if you request it in person with photo identification, in writing with your dated signature, or from your MetNet email account. While Normandale staff do not have viewing privileges to students' PINs, we will reset it back to the system default, which is either your date of birth in YYMMDD format or the last six digits of your Social Security number (assuming you have supplied this information to the College).
You can look up your Student ID number by clicking the "Lookup ID" tab, located on the log in page of the web registration system. Enter your Social Security number and PIN, then click "Submit". Your ID number will be displayed.
The PALS ID feature does not work in place of the PIN/Password.
The feature that allows you to have your information emailed to you only works with your MetNet email address.
Registration Holds
The online registration system tells me I have a Hold on my registration. What do these holds mean?
A hold means that your registration is prevented, not that your class(es) are being held. When the message is displayed, a hold number (or code) is also reflected. Click here for a listing of hold codes and their definitions.
