Library Collections
The Library has a wide variety of materials and resources for use. The variety of material types available include books, pamphlets, magazines, newspapers, indexes, microforms, videotapes, audiotapes, kits, CD-ROM's, maps, and charts. All items, except magazines, newspapers, and pamphlets are cataloged using the Library of Congress Classification System and added to the various collections.
The collections within the NCC Library are: |
- Reference Collection:
More than 10,000 volumes used to help answer users immediate questions. Located in the northeast section of the Reference Room (L2734). These materials cannot be checked out, but can be used within the Library.

- General Collection:
Nearly 70,000 titles on a broad range of topics supporting NCC classes and course work. Located in the Library's East Room (Call Numbers A-PS535) and the south section of the Library's Central Room (Call Numbers PS536-Z). These items may be checked out.

- Oversize Collection:
A collection of items too large to be shelved with the regular General Collection titles. Located at the end of the General Collection shelves in south section of the Reference Room. These items may be checked out.

- Picture Book Collection:
A collection of more than 1,200 picture books, including most Caldecott Medal and Honor books. These items may be checked out.

- Magazine & Newspaper Collection:
Current issue of each magazine and newspaper is on display on the racks in the Library's North Room (L2722). Some older issues are available for check out at the Circulation Desk.

Journals List
Locate Journals, Magazines, Newspapers in Print, Electronic, and Microform Formats at Normandale Library.

- Reserve Collection:
Supplemental learning materials made available for student use by individual faculty members. Items may be retrieved for use at the Circulation Desk. Check out times vary.

- AudioVisual Collection:
A collection of over 7,200 videotapes, audiotapes, DVDs, and slide sets covering all subject areas. Please request these items at the Circulation Desk. Some items may be checked out and some items must be used within the Library. See a Circulation staff member for additional information.

- Audiobooks Collection:
This collection includes works popular works of fiction and non-fiction. A complete listing of these items can be retrieved by performing an Subject Begins With ... search with the term “Audiobooks” in the Library Catalog. These items are available for check out at the Circulation Desk.

- CD-ROM Collection:
CD-ROMs issued as companions to books and non-reference databases products. These items are available for check out at the Circulation Desk.

- Slide Collection:
Collection of slides, primarily art related in focus. Housed in Room L2710 along with the necessary viewing equipment. Slides cannot be checked-out, but may be used within the Library.

- Indexes Collection:
Collection housing The Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature and indexes to the Minneapolis and St. Paul Newspapers. Collection is located on the southern wall of the Library's reading room. Indexes cannot be checked-out, but may be used within the Library.

- Microfilm and Microfiche Collections:
Primarily old issues of newspapers and some historical documents. Collection is located on the southern wall of the Library's reading room. Items cannot be checked-out, but may be used within the Library.
