Rationale
Normandale Community College is an educational institution that appreciates and endorses a healthy environment for its students, staff and community. All Normandale community individuals are responsible for personal health habits, including tobacco use. We support providing a healthy, safe and tobacco-free environment for our students, administrators, faculty and staff who comprise our community.
Normandale Community College is in full compliance with the Minnesota Clean Indoor Air Act (H.F. 2291, Sec. 9) (1988) which states that all State agency facilities must be smoke-free as of January 1, 1990.
Tobacco use in any form by students, administrators, faculty, staff or any other community member jeopardizes the health of both tobacco-free individuals and tobacco users and may create a potential fire hazard.
Policy
Normandale Community College, including all buildings and facilities, will comply with the Minnesota Clean Indoor Air Act.
There will be designated areas on campus. Smoking will be limited to these designated areas only. The use of chewing tobacco is prohibited in all areas.
Enforcement
Enforcement of this policy is the responsibility of all Normandale staff, students and community members. The Normandale Community College Security Office will enforce the policy to its fullest, which may include, but not limited to a misdemeanor, disciplinary actions or sanctions.
