About Normandale:
Position Purpose:
The Vice President reports to the President, serves as the senior Student Affairs officer and has primary responsibility for leadership, management, strategic direction, policy development, and administrative oversight for the Student Affairs division. The Vice President provides critical leadership in enhancing student development and student leadership, student services, recruitment and retention, student success and student life.
The Vice President works in concert with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and supports the academic mission of the College by providing a range of co-curricular services and programs to support students' academic success and meet the diverse educational needs of students and the College community.
The Vice President is also a senior leader of the college, serving on the President's cabinet and providing broad advice and assistance to the President in establishing and meeting the strategic direction for the college. As a member of the President's senior administrative team, the Vice President develops policy and practice on institutional issues, represents the College in MnSCU decision-making and with other external agencies and bodies, and serves as a College officer/representative on public occasions.
The Vice President of Student Affairs, as the college's chief student affairs officer, provides administrative leadership and oversight of a large, complex college division which includes the departments of Counseling, Marketing and Public Relations, Admissions, Records and Registration, Career Center and Career Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Academic Support Center, Adult Programs and Services, Child Care, Student Employment, Student Life, Service Learning, and Multicultural Services. The VP is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the division including the many services that students rely on to meet their educational needs.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provides strategic, innovative leadership in the planning, implementation, assessment and improvement of the Student Affairs Division and related programs and services.
- Provides direction for data collection, reporting and analysis in support of the enrollment planning process and a culture of assessment throughout the College based upon well-defined benchmarks and consistent collection of data.
- Provides leadership to support outreach and services to under-represented student populations.
- Strengthens resources in order to provide the highest quality services to students.
- Recommends to the president the employment of administrators for the Student Affairs Division.
- Responsible for Student Affairs Division budget development and management.
- Reviews and revises the organizational structure of the division to ensure efficient and responsive student services.
- Initiates, monitors and utilizes student and stakeholder evaluations of services of the Student Affairs Division to enhance continuous improvement.
- Collaborates with other senior leaders on strategic issues and communicates student success initiatives and concerns with the College community, the Office of the Chancellor (OOC) and others.
- Oversees the student judicial and conduct system.
- Communicates with and provides leadership assistance to the OOC staff regarding student affairs issues at the college.
- Ensures excellent customer service and a welcoming, supportive, and respectful work environment.
- Investigates and resolves requests and concerns raised by students.
- Actively participates on and/or leads various College committees and workgroups.
- Ensures College compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, accrediting commissions, licensing requirements, and with College regulations, Board policies and collective bargaining agreements as appropriate.
- Promotes innovation and improved services for students, employees and the community.
- Utilizes technology to maximize efficiency and advocates for the continuing expansion of division technology within fiscal constraints.
- Dedicated to and promotes diversity in staffing, curriculum, programs and services.
- Ensures and promotes health and safety in the workplace.
- Maintains the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
- Master's degree in education, educational leadership or a related field.
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs or related area at a college or university.
- An understanding of and commitment to the role and mission of community colleges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in education, educational leadership or a related field.
